The first installment of the Baseball Project is the 2003 Grid, which tracks each Red Sox player's performance -– game by game - over the course of the 2003 season with a written record of eight statistical categories. I started with the opening day 25-man roster, and stuck with those original 25 unless they were traded, injured for the rest of the season (and didn't return), or released. If any of those three things happened to a player, he was replaced on the chart by the player I thought filled his role. For example, Shea Hillenbrand was traded for BH Kim, but Kim was not his replacement, Bill Mueller was. Since Bill Mueller was already on the chart (as a utility player), I put Gabe Kapler in Hillenbrand's place, because Gabe Kapler was the utility replacement. Got it?

This is a scrollable window that shows Ortiz's stat lines across the entire season. I took about 40 photos across the drawing and then pieced them together so you can see the game-by-game record. It looks a bit odd because my camera fish-eyes the image when I take close-up shots.
